I had the same problem. Installed the latest version and the custom 404 page would not show up.

Downloaded and installed the 1.4 version, and it worked fine.

Thanks for your feedbacks. Final version 2.1 will be available soon.

@oshber: sadly it’s impossible to promise that there will never be compatibility issues in future versions. But now there are two modes and standard mode will always follow the WordPress best practice for handling the 404 template. In compatibility mode I’ll try to fix known compatibility issues with themes and plugins that do not allow to handle the 404 template the “WP way”. That’s out my hands…
