    hi,

my website has always worked. I have my domain registered with one company, hosted at another. I checked both, and both are active and the nameserver redirect is correct.
another site that I have set up in the same way, in the same hosting package (stablehost) is working just fine, it’s just that I cannot access anything on my older site https://ericelsewhere.com – everything gives a 404 page, including the wp-admin

I have ftp access to the files, and everything seems to be there.
is there a way that I need to update a certain aspect of the site through ftp, or am I completely lost?

  • This is not just a WordPress “404-page not found” issue. Your root domain is listing an empty directory index — showing the website’s directory is totally empty.

Something has definitely changed on the server/hosting front.

I have ftp access to the files, and everything seems to be there.

Where are you seeing “everything”? You’re on a WHM/cPanel server. Your website content should be available in the folder public_html, unless you’re using an add-on domain.

Can you please confirm from BOTH FTP and cPanel’s File Manager where you’re seeing the “everything” — your website’s content? Is the content inside the public_html folder? Can you share a screenshot?

sure, no problem, but I can’t seem to post a screenshot here?

    The forum doesn’t support attachments.

You may post to a public place like https://snipboard.io and embed or share the link here.

and I don’t seem to have a cPanel login, so I’m contacting the host’s support right now

    I’ll update here later

ah, so somehow, I’m still not sure how, the root of my domain changed from home/public_html/ to just home/

the site had worked for years before, but suddenly it didn’t (obviously), but I could easily fix this in cPanel by changing it back ??
