• All of a sudden my website has decided not to load images, JS and CSS properly. Everything was fine and then the CSS/JS/Images files started coming up as ‘404 not found’, even though I can physically see them in cPanel.

I’ve tried all the normal solutions and I have searched the net far and wide, but no one seems to have a problem – or solution – such as much.

To see if there is an error with the theme/installation I tried setting up a new account through WHM and threw a wordpress installation onto that BUT the CSS is missing from that also – even though it is a separate account.

So to recap… the site is absolutely fine and everything is loading as it should be. All of a sudden CSS/JS/Image files are 404, even though they are there and nothing has changed.

    Any help much appreciated.

  • What theme are you using? Can you post a link to your site?

Woohoo theme. And yes – https://64.32.5.16/~islandec/

I have had problems with my old website (islandecho.co.uk) too. I can’t edit posts, upload images or anything on that site so I’ve got a new VPS (above link).

I’m wondering if there could be a virus/hack or other issue in the database? I can’t see anything though.

You may need to ask your host for more help. I did a quick Google search and most of the things I read are things that would need to be checked by your host, e.g. the nginx configuration is incorrect or the permissions are faulty.

They are looking into it now for me, but i thought i’d ask the community as someone may have some experience.

What I can understand is why it was astutely fine, then all of a sudden went wrong. If it was a config or permissions error, surely the issue would be from the outset?

Your host might have upgraded software or changed something on their end, too. I found so many possibilities with a Google search that it would be difficult to narrow it down, unless your host has some insight.

My host came to a dead end and said my web developer needs to look at it.

I’ve deleted the entire account and started again to rule out any possible theme/wordpress issues. However, the clean install of wordpress is also not showing the CSS – so it must be a server issue, surely?

As you can see – right click, view source and click the css file. 404 not found… but it is there – i’ve just installed it!

Have you assigned a domain to this site?

I see an error when the site loads via the IP address:

Font from origin 'https://www.islandecho.co.uk' has been blocked from loading by Cross-Origin Resource Sharing policy: No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource. Origin 'https://64.32.5.16' is therefore not allowed access.
https://64.32.5.16/~islandec/ Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found)

but https://islandecho.co.uk/ takes forever to load due to errors on font files.
