• Hi all,

I’ve kind of acquired WordPress as our company has decided to bring the website design in-house. I don’t have any background knowledge and the changes I know how to do so far are very basic.

We were recently hacked and had to have the website disabled and re-installed. The new site has the old content, but I’m having to change the theme’s and re-install the plugins. I’ve formed the majority of the new theme, however the new top Menu doesn’t seem to link to any of the other pages and comes up with the ‘404 Not Found’.

You can see the website at https://www.freshlogistics.co.uk and see for yourself.

If anyone can help me with an easy to follow step by step guide then it would be greatly appreciated!

    Many thanks,

    Oli

  • Look at the page for “Meet the Team,” by loging into WordPress then go to Dashboard > Pages then find the Meet the Team Page and push Edit. Look at the permalink at the top of the page under the title. Whatever link you see here should be added as the URL in the Menu.

If that doesn’t fix your menu problem, please post the permalink for the Meet the Team page. Also look in the right side bar of this same page under Page Attributes > Parent and tell me what is selected.

    Hi WSLADE,

    Thanks for your reply.

The permalink is https://www.freshlogistics.co.uk/contact-us/meet-the-team/. Clicking this link direct doesn’t seem to work either?

The Menu tab doesn’t give me an option to add a URL, only Navigation Label, Title Attribute and Description.

    Page Attributes has:

    Parent – Contact Us
    Template – Default Template
    Order – 0

OK, thanks for the great description! Using FTP, download a copy of the .htaccess file located in the WordPress root to your PC for safe keeping. Then delete the file from the server.

From the Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks then if Post name is selected push Save Changes.

If Post name is not selected, select it and push Save Changes.

Your .htaccess file should be regenerated after pushing Save Changes and your menu or at least the https://www.freshlogistics.co.uk/contact-us/meet-the-team/ page should work.

If the .htaccess file doesn’t regenerate, google for an example WordPress .htaccess file and upload it to the server.
