Hi Guys, I’m really stuck – not too skilled with the backend and server config files, but I’ve tried my best.

Here’s what I’ve done so far.

I had my original WP site working out of a subdomain..
    https://www.spookythings.iofw.co.uk – iofw.co.uk being the main domain.

I’ve gone through the add multisite info, adding what I’ve been told to wpconfig.. seems to work – I have the multisite options in the wp menu.

I’ve created a new site through the WP menu, says its created.. but I get a 404 error if I click any of the options. (view dashboard or site)

  • Hi, set your permalink settings to default and try again.

    Done that.. didnt work

    Get this error now..

The server at mythsinvestigations.spookythings.iofw.co.uk can’t be found because the DNS look-up failed.

I havent don’t anything with the DNS settings, which I think you’ve got to – as I dont really understand what I’m doing.. but I did put in the domain server IP address setting in WP.

    Is mythsinvestigations.spookythings.iofw.co.uk the new site?

    1) Don’t use domain mapping here (there’s no place to put the domain server IP at all in WP)

    2) That tells me you didn’t set up your server (not WP) properly for wildcard subdomains. You need to add it to your httpd.conf/vhosts settings, as well as your dns.

Thankyou, you gave me the clue’s I needed to get this working..

spookythings is a subdomain of iofw – and that’s half my problem.. from the look of it multisite only likes working from the root.

I’ve since found out a lot of problems actually came from using the multisite auto-installer option in installatron.. it knocks out the settings for all my parked domains and subdomains. I had it working for a while..

But then found I had no way of importing my single site into a multisite configuration. Think I’ll have to give up on this. ??

I would never use an auto-installer for Multisite. Doing so robs you of getting familiar with some of the weird stuff with Multisite, like what files do what.

You also CAN import single-site, but generally the best way is to use the traditional WP importer for content.
