Moved servers to an AWS setup and Site Kit seemed to continue working but then later stopped allowing us to log in. Tried a Site Kit reset but the same thing happens as did before the reset. It checks for eligibility, tells us to authenticate, we do, it says Site Kit already has access to 6 or 7 data sources, then when we hit continue, and it goes to the linked URL with a “404 Not Found nginx” error. This same thing happens every time we try to reconnect.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hello @drewwhitcomb, thanks for opening a support topic with us. I would be happy to look into this further for you. Please could you share the following:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form?to share privately if preferred.
    2. When migrating, did the URL, WP admin path or WordPress install directory change? If yes, could you share both the previous and new ones.
    3. Do you encounter the same when trying from an Incognito browser.

If you have any questions on the above then please let me know. Once you have shared the information I can help suggest some next steps for you.

    Filled out the form.

Yes, WP admin path changed and I included that in the other portion of the form.

And yes, the same error results when I try from an incognito window.

@drewwhitcomb Thank you for sharing the information.

If you had Site Kit set up previously, but with a different wp-admin path, this is the path that should be used for a site migration with the same URL, unless you reset the plugin before performing the migration. Resetting the plugin will clear the URL records that Site Kit uses, making it easier to set up on a new installation.

As you have already completed the migration, a Site Kit reset won’t work. What you can do if possible is revert your wp-admin path back to the original, make sure Site Kit connects, perform a reset on the old wp-admin path and then migrate back to the new wp-admin path. This should clear the record on the Site Kit service and allow you to connect with the new wp-admin path on the same URL.

Please let me know if this isn’t a possibility for you and I look into other ways we can resolve this for you.

Reverting is not possible given our current setup.

I tried resetting Site Kit last week before finding this article and now GA isn’t receiving any data. Is there a way inside GA to reset the admin path or start over? Hard to believe there’s no way for the website admin to update this info on my side versus relying on customer support.

Is there any other way to resolve or reset this completely?

@drewwhitcomb You say you performed a reset and now are not getting any Analytics data. Does this mean you have managed to set up the Site Kit plugin for your site and now the issue remaining is your Analytics data not displaying?

I don’t currently see any Site Kit placed Analytics code on your site. Could you confirm if you have the Analytics module connected?

If you are still unable to reset Site Kit and continue to hit the 404 issue because of the change to your wp-admin path, we may need to update this record on the Site Kit service for you but if you could confirm then I can take the appropriate next steps to help you with this.

@adamdunnage Yes, the reset was done on Monday afternoon as I was troubleshooting and GA data immediately stopped collecting. I thought resetting would allow me to refresh the connection.

Site Kit was still pushing GA data even with the changed admin path but just wouldn’t let me log in and show the actual Site Kit interface in WordPress. That’s where the error was occurring. The google log in screen even said I was sharing 7 data points with Site Kit already but then errored when trying to finish the log in.

Now I continue to hit the 404 issue even after the reset. So yes please update the record on the Site Kit service.

@drewwhitcomb Understood, thanks for explaining the situation. It looks like we may need to update your site records on the Site Kit service so before doing this please could you share your current and previous wp-admin paths as we need these when checking this on the service.

I shared them in the Google form I filled out so as not to make them public. Let me know when you’ve got them from this post and I’ll hide them.

@drewwhitcomb Apologies, I can see that you added these to the form. Please feel free to remove them from here. I will reach out to the internal team and ask if your records can be checked and updated so that you can set up Site Kit on the new URL. Once I have an update, I will let you know here.

@drewwhitcomb Thanks for your patience. Please can you try setting up Site Kit once more as we have now corrected the records on the Site Kit service which should now allow you to complete setup on the new wp-admin path.

Let me know how you get on.

@drewwhitcomb Thanks for the update. There could be a number of reasons that you are facing this issue. Here are a few things to try at this stage:

    1. Accessing your website and connecting Site Kit in an Incognito window.
    2. Perform a Site Kit reset and try to set up the plugin once more
    3. Follow the troubleshooting steps here to see if you can highlight a plugin or theme conflict that may be causing this

Let me know how you get on with the above options.
