First of all, thanks for keeping this plugin running, your work is greatly appreciated here!

I’ve been using this plugin for awhile now and it’s mostly been working good, until I upgraded to WP 4.0, since then, the mqtranslate plugin has not been working correctly. When previewing, saving or publishing a post as well as adding a page, I get the error “Page not found error 404”.

I’ve gone through every plugin that I have installed and the only one causing this problem is mqtranslate, of that I’m sure.

I’ve tried to change the permalink options; tried adding a suggested different .htaccess code because I thought the fault was there. But nothing has worked so far.

I’m using WP 4.0 with the latest version of mqtranslate. My server provider is Namecheap. I’m not very proficient at html, just a beginner.

Any help on your side would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • Nope. I set up a site for s test. But finally the conclusion is that the problem is not the plugin but something else. I have been talking to my hosting provider, but they do not seem to understand the problem. I am like at the beginning with 2 web pages that I cannot update neither to post new articles unless I switch off the plugin. I am thinking to change the platform because I do not see any other solution.

Same problem! I drop all site, then I install fresh (wp4.1), then I created a new page easily. Then when I installed mqtrasnlate (2.9.1.2), I cannot post or update “any page”, it gives https://…./post.php ( 403 error).

The permalink is set to %postname%. Some googled searches advise the rewrite rules in .htaccess, but no solutions.

I think, The mqTranslate can not manage the permalinks or post.php parameters.

    Hi all,

Here is what I found after several investigations on different websites.
If the title field contains HTML comment tags in it (it is the way mqTranslate splits different localizations), then some servers return a 403 or a 404 error.

This bug occur also with mqTranslate disabled. If you add a comment in you title field, the post or page edit will fail (try <!–:fr–>Test FR<!–:–><!–:en–>Test EN<!–:–>).

Oddly, it works if the target PHP file of the form is not called post.php. It tried post2.php, _post.php, etc. and the post is added or edited correctly.

This is a very strange behavior because on most setups mqTranslate works correctly with all permalinks setting and I was not able to reproduce this problem on my own servers.

    Hi

Have absolutely the same issue! Actually, have no idea how to fix it.

    Please post a solution.

    (mediatemple, wordpress, mqTranslate)

    Hi,

I controlled the plugins (mqTranslate, qTranslate Plus and qTranslate X) with WP 4.1, the problem (update a page or create new page –> 404 error on post.php) is same. chsxf said the status and there is no solution.
At now, I tried the polylang plugin for multi-language contents in the site and success it! I hope we can get some solution todays…

    Hi

The problem with 404 disappeared right now suddenly. I’m sure that I do nothing for that. Probably the problem is on host side. May be Apache was updated or something like that.

But now I have the problem that texts in different languages are on one page. Please feel free to take a look: https://galka.biz/CZ/category/%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%BD%D1%82%D0%B0%D0%BA%D1%82%D1%8B/

    Tnx, Nick

I’m still with the same problem!!!
This is killing me as right now, I had to made changes to each page and as the titles of the pages are what shows up on the menu and they cannot be translated as the 404 error appears, I only have the menu in one language.

    I’m freaking out!!

    Success!…

I check the problem with my ISP support, then the main reason is mod_security at server side. My problem was solved.

Who faced with this error, he/she should control the server side security filters i.e. mod_security, firewall, waf, ngfw, etc.

    The original message as is:

I have found that Mod_Security rules are causing Forbidden problem on your account. I have whitelisted those rules that were found in the logs. Please check below logs for reference and try again:

Thank you volki for the report. I think it will help a lot of people here.

So only the server service can deal with this, right? There’s nothing we can do ourselves to solve it?

As I stated previously (and this confirms that), the error is thrown at a server level, not at WordPress code level. I’m not an Apache expert but I am pretty sure this must be fixed in the server configuration directly.

I thought it was just me,

Not sure if my issue is exactly the same as everyone else.

Since Thursday last week onwards, mqtranslate fails to allow me to edit posts per language, basically the editor fails to load visual and only loads text view with all languages and titles combined as if the plugin doesn’t exist.

The website displays fine, just I can’t edit posts.

I tried loading the development version from github and I can switch languages and much more works but the visual editor also doesn’t work.

Fixed my issue has an old .htaccess file located in wp/admin/ removed it and everything works again took 5 days to find, must have triggered a rule that it never triggered before.
    maybe helps someone else.

my one doesn’t have .htaccess in wp_admin folder… i can see in other folders but in that one none… and im facing the same issue whenever i need to change title i get 403 error page… if the issue is in server what i have to do can somebody help me please…

    Two options:
    – Switch and try with another qTranslate compatible plugin such as qTranslate-X
    – Contact your hosting provider and explain the issue, eventually linking to this topic
