404 Error When adding to cart

HI There,
I set up my store and when I click add to cart when I am logged in it appears as if everything has worked ok. When I am logged out (or anyone else tries) clicking the ‘add to cart’ button on any product sends me to a 404 error. I know I have correct Paypal information entered.
Any ideas why or what has happened? Also I am a WordPress novice, so please dumb down your responses ??
