• Hi all,

I have a problem after I have changed permalinks structure.

    I changed it from
    /year/postname
    to
    /postname

For the articles, i set a 301 redirection on the htaccess.

But in webmaster tool, it retrieves me a lot of 404 errors on attachments and media related to articles.

I dont know why it keep lookin for the old structure /year/postname/name of media page

Basically I think to fix that, i would have to set another 301 redirection specific to attachment and media.
    But I can’t find a way to do so…

    Anyone can help me ?
    Thank u in advance.

  • I believe it has to do with google index. They need to get back around to crawling your site, to re-index the new pages/permalink structure. I’m not 100%, so hopefully someone more knowledgeable on SEO can chime in.

    Interested as well.

    Hi Evan,

Actually I was thinking the same thing as you… But it’s been a long time now, I mean something like more than 1 month.
    But its still in error…
And in my sitemap, the structure of the attachment files is correct too…

    Hi,

Just to let you know that I still have the same issue. Google is still crawling attachement that doesnt exist and returned it as 404 error in Webmaster tools.
If anyone have an idea how should I do to fix it, would be great.
    Thank you !

for old 404 erors , mark them as fixed and generate a latest sitemap for your website & submit it to google webmaster. remove previous submitted sitemap too.

wait 2-3 days. should take care of old 404 errors.
