My website suddenly didn’t show one custom post type, giving a 404 error.

I noticed that the only change was that wordfence upgraded to the latest version last night.

I rolled back wordfence to previous version – no difference – still 404.

I then turned wordfence OFF – the website worked again – NO 404 issue.

I then turned wordfence ON – the website still worked (how odd)

I then updated wordfence again to latest version – the website still worked (even more odd).

    What is going here?

How can I avoid this happening in the future?

    Hi @dan00neuffer,

It doesn’t seem to tally with a specific common issue after updating the plugin, although sounds potentially like a caching issue where some code failed to execute, or a file didn’t load as expected because it had been changed during the update from the cached version.

If you have any plugins or caching provided by your host, you may be able to refresh/purge those on a schedule to coincide with your site’s plugin updates.

    Thanks,
    Peter.
