  • If I change the permalink itself (for example, to https://www.kevinvelasco.com/blackjack) it will “solve” the problem

No the above link also gives 404 errors.

Have you tried deactivating all your plugins and reverting to Twenty Eleven theme to see if the problem is theme-specific?

    I re-published the link: https://www.kevinvelasco.com/blackjack

If I attempt to change the above post to https://www.kevinvelasco.com/the-tale-of-the-blackjack-singer (the original permalink from when I first published it in 2011), the 404 error occurs.

I deactivated all plugins and reverted to Twenty Eleven theme – no luck. It’s an odd error – this post seems to be the only one giving me problems! Is it database related? I might be able to do some kind of database restore through my hosting’s cpanel.

It is quite OK now. Please check it.

    Krishna,
I believe you are missing the problem. I am well aware the post is visible because I changed the permalink. The problem is that when I try to change the post permalink back to its original permalink, I get the 404 error. The reason why it is desirable for me to have my original permalink (the-tale-of-the-blackjack-singer vs blackjack) is because I have more Facebook likes with the original permalink.

OK, now try again to set the permalinks to whatever you like. It must work. If not try again, may be a few times.

I can change the permalink to anything except the original permalink. When I change it back to its original, I receive the 404 error. See screenshots:

Screenshot 1 (Post set to original permalink): https://www.kevinvelasco.com/screenshot.jpg

Screen shot 2 (404 Error received with original permalink URL): https://www.kevinevlasco.com/screenshot2.jpg

I checked your site again. It seems it is not the case with other links. Is it specific to only this post?

    Thread Starter KevinVelasco

    (@kevinvelasco)

Yes, it is specific to only this post.

The corrected URL for screenshot 2 is: https://www.kevinvelasco.com/screenshot2.jpg

Yes, it is specific to only this post.

If this is specific to one post, the site is quite OK. Let it remain that way and don’t change anything. If you put that post with the URL that you want, we can check if anything specific to that is causing the problem.

I fixed the problem. I called my hosting company (bluehost) and we did some trouble shooting.

I ended up logging into phpmyadmin (through cpanel) to make some changes to my database. For some reason the post status was “trash” and I changed it to “publish” to make it reappear.

Anyway, I am happy to note that you could resolve the problem.

Please mark the topic as resolved.
