404 after changing sitemap base url

    Hello,

    I changed my sitemap base url from /sitemap_index.xml to /folder/sitemap_index.xml but I get “404 not found” for my new sitemap url.

    I updated permalinks, turned on/off sitemap feature, deleted cache but still no success.

    I don’t want that other users can see my sitemap, that is why I want to change base url or sitemap name.

    I had the same problem and I had it fixed like that:
    You first have to change the sitemap url in robots.txt at the editor of Seo -Tool and after that in the Search Console.
