I am new to this plugin. I added a download with several files in it. When I try to link directly to one of the files in the download I get the “403 Permission Denied” message. If I tr to access the URL link displayed in the download information box on the right it just shows me the homepage. Any ideas?

  • Same problem. Removing the .htaccess allows me to access the files – but now anyone with the file URL could access the file, whether they are a logged in user or not.

It seems to me like a “direct hit” (without referer) to the file URL should trigger a rewrite through something that checks credentials. Is this possible? Is this part of the plugin and it’s just not working for me? Thanks in advance.

I actually figured out my problem. This plugin is not designed to allow you to access the files via their url you see in the “File URL(s):” box. They are only meant to be accesses via the url you see in the “Download Information” box at the top right of the edit downloads page via the field labeled URL. This then redirects the user to the real file. This way nobody has the direct link to your file and it also allows the plugin to count that as a download for the download counter.

    Hope this helps.
