    Hi there,

Like some others I too get the 403 Forbidden error when trying to authorise to a Google Account. I spoke with my server provider regarding modding the Firewall rules and they have said:

`We restrict outbound access to ports 25 and 465 to just the mail server itself, this is a protection to stop compromised sending out spam/phishing emails.

The “preferred” solution would be for you to connect to Google Workspace on port 587, this isn’t restricted as this is an smtp relay port rather than a dual use relay and receipt port.</blockquote>

Google allow connections on port 587 as its what we use!`

Could you advise how I would implement that in the plugin/Google please?

    Thank you

    Hi @thstudio,

Thanks for reaching out! Generally, when a 403 error comes up while trying to connect to Google, it’s because the app project has not yet been published.

Within your Google Console (https://console.cloud.google.com/apis) project, please head over to the OAuth Consent screen section and then publish your app.

Back in your WordPress admin area, you’ll need to connect to your Google account again by heading over to WP Mail SMTP > Settings and clicking on the button labeled Allow plugin to send emails using your Google account (https://a.supportally.com/FCADBa).

Try that and let us know if you still have trouble. Regarding the question about the port, you would only need to set the port if you’re using the Other SMTP mailer. Our Google/Gmail mailer, however, connects to the Google service using an API, so you won’t need to set a port.

    I hope this helps!

    Have a great day!

    Hi @thstudio,

Thanks for reaching out! The Gmail mailer is an API based integration which is not depending on those ports.

You can ask your hosting provider to see if they block any API requests from Google.

If you’re trying to configure the Other SMTP mailer option, please follow this step.

    I hope this helps. Thanks!

    Hi guys,

    Thanks for coming back.

Unfortunately that hasn’t worked I can confirm the app is published, set to Production and User type is External. To see if there was any user error I have gone through and set it up again from scratch but still the same result.

I’ve used WPSMTP on other sites and never encountered this issue before, would be great to get it revolved so I can stop sending on form notifications to my client.

    Many thanks ??

I want to chime in here as well. I’m facing the same problem.

I am getting the 403 error when authorizing.
I can confirm the app is published and set to Production and the User type is set to External.
I also have another website I run that is working just fine with WPSMTP.

I have tried starting from scratch on a couple computers and made sure that I was not logged into any other gmail accounts and I was in a private window.

I was wondering if you could tell us specific questions we should ask our hosting provider about this?

I appreciate anyone’s help! Thank you very much!

Hi WPSMTP guys – is there any update on this please?

    Thanks

    Hi @thstudio,

That is rather odd because it sounds like you’ve got it set up correctly. There may be something else causing the interruption when Google tries to communicate back to the site.

Something you can try is disabling all of the other plugins first, then attempt to make the connection. If the connection makes it through, it sounds like there is a conflict with another plugin, possibly a security plugin that is blocking the connection. If the site is using a service such as Cloudflare or something similar, you may need to disable it or turn down the security settings to test the connection.

If after doing the above the connection still fails, the host may have software on the server that is blocking the connection. In that case, what you’ll want to do is try the connection and note the time/date when you did. Go to your host and let them know that you’re trying to connect to the Google API with WP Mail SMTP and what time this occurred. They should be able to look at the relevant server logs to find out if something on their server is blocking your attempts.

    I hope that helps!

    Thanks!

@jmitchell311 As long as everything is configured correctly, and it sounds like it probably is, follow the same advice I provided above. That way you basically rule out a lot of the possible causes. It’s possible that security softare on the server is blocking the connection, so the host would need to review logs on the server to find out. If you can tell them what time/date you tried, that should help them out.
