• Hi everyone,
so far no one has been able to help me with this 403 error, neither the theme developer nor my hosting provider. I hope someone here will finally be able to:
I am using a German custom theme, developed mainly for affiliate marketing purposes, which allows you to control/change settings affecting product-related custom posts that you can create using the theme.
When trying to save/update those particular options, it keeps returning a 403 Forbidden error: https://fs5.directupload.net/images/160621/u95n36c4.png
“You don’t have permission to access /wp-admin/admin.php on this server.”
The (product) settings page I’ve talked about which leads to the 403 error looks like this: https://fs5.directupload.net/images/160621/6o9tyyvy.png

So, the theme developer asked me to disable all plugins and empty the htaccess file which I both did but it didn’t help.
The hosting provider just found some errors related to the plugin “Kirki” which the theme uses but those errors were found irrelevant by the theme developer.
The hosting provider also set the proper WordPress permissions, so this shouldn’t be causing the 403 either.
The only plugin I have installed that could block such requests is Wordfence, which I have disabled before and removed the corresponding lines from the htaccess file.

Enough from my side for now: Do you guys have any idea how to fix this annoying 403 error?
Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

403 forbidden means that your browser isn’t able to load the scripts up because your server isn’t allowing it. This is a hard one to solve. Because anything could be blocking the server.
    – Most likely this is a server permissions/ownership issue, so ask your host what’s going on
    – check your .htaccess files for anything strange.
    – make sure your server settings are not overriding the .htaccess file
    – try a full Manual Upgrade, to make sure all the WordPress files are there and correct..
    – Make sure to backup everything (including database) before doing any action, in case

    Thanks for your help, Tara.
I’ve tried everything you mentioned (except for the server permissions/ownership point, which my hosting provider has done, allegedly), yet I still cannot access/update these settings.
Is there anything else I can do?

Have you tried switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

Hi kmessinger, the options tab/page that will return the 403 when attempting to save settings is part of the custom theme. So, I won’t be able to replicate the issue using the default theme. Thanks though!
I have been messaging my hosting as well as theme provider extensively about this issue but no one’s really been able to help me.
My hosting provider is now going ahead and investigating the issue further by actually logging into my WordPress.

So, I won’t be able to replicate the issue using the default theme.

We don’t support custom themes on this forum.

Forum volunteers have no access to custom products, so they would not know why it is not working properly. Other community members who may have faced your issue might be able to help you but your best bet is your product’s developer.

    A 403 error isn’t really theme-specific or even content-related in general afaik.
Somehow something’s being blocked that should actually be allowed.
I posted the issue on this forum because it’d reach more people and there might be one or the other who has experienced similar issues in the past.
