On several sites now (all on the same host) I am unable to get past the ‘Additional Permissions Required’ screen to set up Analytics correctly. When I click proceed, every time I get a server 403 error (Forbidden – you do not have permission to access this document) with no other insight as to what the issue is or how to address it.

I have seen other threads on this topic, but not seen anything with steps to resolve the issue.

I am sure it’s a server-side issue and perhaps changes I need to make to my PHP or Plesk set-up, so any guidance on what this might be would be great.

I have full access to my backend set-up, so hopefully will be able to apply a suitable fix/workaround.

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for reaching out, hopefully we can assist. It sounds like you’re correct and something at host level may be resulting in the notice you’re encountering. If you want to share the following information I’d be happy to check your current setup.

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred. Please include your current hosting provider when asked
    2. Have you been able to connect the Analytics module previously, on any sites on the same hosting platform?
    3. Does this only occur when connecting the Analytics module, or can you connect other modules successfully?

    Info sent via the form.

I have not been able to connect any Analytics elements via the Site Kit plugin (the first modules load/connect fine, but connecting the property – either something previously set-up or a new one causes the same 403 error.

The site is hosted by 34SP.com and runs on a Plesk server – I am running PHP v7.3.25 (and latest versions of the plugin & WordPress).

    Thanks

Thanks for providing the additional information. Before checking for any hosting related issue can you perform the checks below, which can help rule out any plugin related conflict:

    1. Login to your admin panel from another device or a Chrome browser incognito window.
    2. Install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.
    3. Navigate to “Plugins > Health Check & Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot”.
    4. From the same screen click on the “Available Plugins” tab at the top right and then click on the “Enable” option next to “Site Kit by Google”
    5. Attempt to setup Site Kit once more

You can exit troubleshooting mode afterwards.

Let me know how you get on after attempting the above.

I did everything as requested – reattempted the Analytics install – same 403 error.

I tried as both an existing account or a new account. No luck.

    Any other suggestions…?

Thanks for the update, sorry to hear the issue persists. As the previous troubleshooting steps were unsuccessful please check can you temporarily deactivate ModSecurity or any other hosting level Web Application Firewall (WAF) from your hosting control panel before then attempting to connect the Analytics module once more? If you’re unsure on this, or should this setting be unavailable please check with your hosting support.

If the same issue persists please share any console errors on the same screen where you encounter the notice

Such an easy fix – I turned off the Firewall and it all connected. I assume I can turn it back on and the feed/connection with Site Kit will still work.

    Thanks for your assistance.

Great to hear it, thanks for providing an update! And yes, please do try and reenable your Firewall. Out of curiously did you make any changes to your Firewall, or leave all default settings unchanged. I’ll see what I can discover from my side with your current hosting provider.

Do also let me know if you encounter any strange behavior once re-enabling your Firewall. And if you have a moment free we’d love to hear your plugin feedback once you get an opportunity to test out the various Site Kit dashboards.

@bdeller As we haven’t received a response, I’ll mark this as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to encounter issues, or reopen this topic and we’d be happy to assist. Thank you!
