403 error and now 500 error – urgent help needed

  • I need some urgent help please.

    I have been randomly getting 403 errors. I looked at some forum posts and made some changes to my htaccess file. However, after that I now get 500 errors. I changed it back to the original settings and am now getting URL not found. I’m scared of touching anything else as it’s made things worse.

    Please, please, please, any help would be appreciated.

  • I would completely delete the .htaccess, go into WordPress settings, go to permalinks and refresh permalink structure.
    Did you try that?

    Yes, I did try deleting the .htaccess file but then got URL not found so I can’t get into the dashboard to change anything. God, I wish I hadn’t touched anything!

    I’ve just tried again – deleted .htacess and got into admin and have now reset permalinks – thanks for the advice !!!

    It’s gone again – now getting blank pages!
