401:Unauthorized.

  • after a half hour blundering through the complex setup with directions that were not directive enough I managed to get a response in the log that said “401:Unauthorized.” which I have no idea wether that is to do with the twitter thingy or the wordpress plugin I would suggest we leave this for those with a degree from MIT sorry to be harsh I have always wished the wordpress would offer a level of competency guide on plugins

    Did you set the authentication settings as depicted at https://help.xyzscripts.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/8-4.png? Especially the read and write permission, and also generate the token only after setting the permission.

    If the token is generated properly, it will display ‘Created with Read and Write permission’ as shown in https://help.xyzscripts.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/14.png.

    Please cross-check and let us know if there are any issues.
    These are recent API changes at Twitter that we need to follow to work with Twitter, and we can’t offer much help as it is a must to do.

    I have tried al your suggestions but still no luck with what must be a a 100 variables I am never surprised when the connection between wordpress and twitter doesnt work. I will give it one more try delete the app and reinstall . One thing the regarding settings I have the following set

    Callback URI / Redirect URL?(required)?+ Add another URI / URL

    contact-us is an actual page

    Any reason they would not be ok?

    Does your app dashboard display ‘Created with Read and Write permission’ as shown in https://help.xyzscripts.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/14.png?

    If so try regenerating your tokens and keys at https://developer.twitter.com/en/portal/projects (https://prnt.sc/89OLOfGKluDR) and use it at Twitter settings of WP Twitter Auto Publish

    Still unsuccessful after a couple of hours trying various settings etc etc its way to hard for me time to give up. shame it would have been useful. Th other thing is I am sure it works elsewhere and I am sure it is one of the 100 or so variables I have set incorrectly

    I was checking some other plugins and was reminded of this one. Had any more recent thoughts as to why it still doesn’t work? still get the 401 unauthorized return in the log. I was going to get one of the share comapnies to figure out how to put the share icons on the fornt page so one could post manually but no luck. Is it still working for others?

    I don’t believe it I got it working ! I completely rebuilt the app then tried 401 thing again went into settings and clicked around things off to on and vice versa and tried again and it worked. DO NOT ATTEMPT this at home! Hire a MIT graduate to set it up for you.
