I have not yet received a reply from OpenWeatherMap’s support but I believe that from now on everyone has to sign up for the OneCall 3.0 API. The subscription allows for 1,000 free calls but requires a credit card.

    – Go to https://home.openweathermap.org/subscriptions/billing_info/onecall_30/base?key=base&service=onecall_30
    – Follow the instructions to complete the subscription.
    – Go to https://home.openweathermap.org/subscriptions and set the “Calls per day (no more than)” to 1,000. This ensures you will never overrun the free calls.

OWM Weather, with “Time Until Cache Refresh” set to 30 minutes, will not make more than 48 OneCall API calls per day (for each shortcode). That will be good enough for most websites. There is now just an extra hoop to jump through.

But, why my Api keys work fine in wp cloudy?
I think there is a problem with owm Weather and that’s one should be fixed.

WP Cloudy doesn’t use the OneCall API for the daily/hourly forecasts. Instead, it retrieves its data through the Forecast API. When you check the daily high and low temperatures, you will notice that the values are always the same (and completely wrong) in WP Cloudy.

Here is the reply from OpenWeather Support:

One Call 1.0 (2.5 syntaxes) is deprecated for all new free and startup users. All old users will have access to One Call 1.0, but new users can only get this access by subscribing to the Developer Plan. Thus, for all users, we recommend switching to the updated One Call 3.0, an updated version of One Call.

Here’s the description on how to subscribe and avoid any credit card changes:

Without the subscription, the following OWM Weather data is not available: Hourly Forecast, Daily Forecast, Alerts, Moonrise/set, Dew Point, UV Index, and GTAG.
