I had a scheduled post go up this morning and I’m getting this error:
    Bad Request

Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I had this error back in August & called my hosting company and they had me change the title of the post and it fixed it, I’ve tried changing the title, changing the URL, deleting the post and re-posting it, changing the permalink set up and nothing is working!

All other posts are working fine except for the one from this morning:
    https://www.worldtravelingmilitaryfamily.com
First post on the page, you’ll see the error when you click on it.

Please can someone help? I have no idea what else to do, I’ve searched the forums and haven’t found a good answer to this problem.

Also I haven’t changed anything before the error, 2 posts went up early this week without any problems.

  • Do you write your posts in the WordPress editor, or do you write them using a Word Processor and then paste them in. I’m wondering if there is something within the content of the post that is causing the problem.

Look at the HTML for the post and see if there is anything strange.

Also, there is some garbage in the url that the browser is getting confused by:

    https://www.worldtravelingmilitaryfamily.com/%EF%BF%BCunaccompanied-baggage-germany/

Double check that. After you’ve rewritten the URL, update your permalinks by going to Settings -> Permalinks. Just resave on that page, but I would try changing it to default and seeing if you can get the page to load that way. You can then change it back to preferred setting.

I write the posts in MacJournal and upload them to WP. I have been doing it for months with no problems and had 2 go up earlier this week without issues as well.

What should I be looking for in the HTML?

I updated the url and it looks like this for me: https://www.worldtravelingmilitaryfamily.com/unaccompanied-baggage

and then changed the permalinks to default and saved, but it would not let me save it for just 1 page.

So when I change to the default it works, but I don’t want the url of all the post to be https://www.worldtravelingmilitaryfamily.com/p567 for example.

    Any suggestions?

Ok I was able to fix it FINALLY!

I changed it to the post name permalink, and then changed the url to just germanyarrival, and it worked. Then I went back and edited it to baggage-arrival-germany and it still works! I guess it wasn’t liking the term unaccompanied-baggage which is weird because I have another post up that has it in there as well.

Oh well at least it’s fixed!!

So for others out there, with this issue it WAS a url issue and was fixed by totally renaming the blog and changing the permalinks & saving.

It wasn’t the words you are using in the URL, it was a permalink issue.

The next time it happens, just work on resaving the permalinks. It could be an issue with with MacJournal and how it interfaces, but I doubt it.

The main thing to remember is that it can happen (for no clear reason), and that all you need to do is to change the permalinks around a couple times and work through it that way. I also suspect that there is a deeply technical issue involving your host, saving failures and other things, however, if that is the case, it is unimportant if the issue only occurs occasionally and you have a method to fix it. General rule in website stuff, if it works okay, then it works.

As far as using external software to write your blog posts, sure, but WordPress is a great piece of software and using the built-in editor (check out Distraction Free Writing Mode) ensures that your writing doesn’t have extra stuff in it. Some of the most annoying headaches I’ve helped my users troubleshoot through were caused because they were using third-party writing programs to write their posts. I’m not familiar with MacJournal so I don’t know if there are occassional issues with it, but, as I said, if it works okay, then it works!
