4.8.1 automatic upgrade results in 404 errors on all pages except home page

    On 2 Aug 2017 I received an email stating that my site has been automatically updated to WordPress 4.8.1

    Since this automatic upgrade, every page but the home page gives this 404 error:

    Not Found

    The requested URL /page-name/ was not found on this server.

    Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    Running Versatile Church WordPress Theme with the following up to date plugins:

    AddToAny Share Buttons, Akismet Anti-Spam, Contact Form 7, iThemes Security,
    Really Simple CAPTCHA, Social Media Widget by Acurax, Youtube Channel Gallery
    Version 2.4

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Try re-saving your permalink structure at Admin panel>>>Settings>>>Permalinks. Sometimes, that works if it is a simple db issue. WordPress will either create/rebuild the .htaccess file. If WordPress cannot automatically edit the .htaccess file( if it is not writable), then WordPress will provide manual instructions after saving the correct block of code so that you can manually add it to your .htaccess file.     Same issue here with the 4.8.1 upgrade on a multisite install. I can get to network admin and the home site but can’t access any other sites or admin (or Permalinks settings), any other solutions to try?
