I updated my WP installation this morning to 4.7.1, and it seems to have broken all my media, or very nearly all.

    Without success, I have:
    – deactivated or deleted all the plugins
    – tried a vanilla theme
    – tried uploading new images
    – tried pulling directly from server

If it were just a matter of uploading them all again, I could do it, although 1200+ items would take ages. But the images break as soon as I upload them. My website is a total wreck. Any advice or suggestions would be great. I’m going to try rolling back to a pre-update version.

  • The missing images I see (accually don’t see) all have paths that end with a 403 error. For example, https://www.innatthecrossroads.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/IMG_3558-e1478540384332.jpg

What are the permissions on wp-content/uploads/2016/11?

The folders are set to 755 and the images themselves to 644, as per what I’d read elsewhere about similar issues. However, the images from last November seem to be extra broken. Which I could fix, but not as long as I can’t upload images… ??

I rolled back my WordPress install with the help of hosting tech and still broken.

Any thoughts at all on this? It’s basically making my site unusable.

I’ve tried manually updating all of the upload_path variations, but they’re all still broken, and I still can’t upload anything new without it also appearing immediately broken in my media library.

The issue seems to be mostly resolved now. Not sure what fixed it, as I tried just about everything. Might have been a combination of permissions and navigation, but it’s basically anyone’s guess. Here’s hoping nobody else has to slog through this process.

any guess as to what fixed it?

i’m in exactly the same situation and have tried the fixes you mention above… =/
