4.7.2 to 4.8.2 – Post Meta Spikes

We just recently upgraded from 4.7.2 to 4.8.2. We have New Relic installed and we’re seeing spikes in the post_meta table. Sometimes there is matching throughput on the spike, other times not.

We have HyperDB installed, one primary, 7 replicas. After the upgrade, we noticed that the /feed/ (with multiple post_meta selects) goes to the primary DB more often. The spikes seem to be related to this as it responds slower.

I’ve scoured the change logs from 4.7.2 to 4.8.2 and can’t see any reason for this. We didn’t touch HyperDB in the upgrade.

Anyone have any idea?
