    Hi,

In WooCommerce – Payment – Settings – Stripe, I checked the box “Exiger 3D Secure si applicable” (in French).
    What does that mean exactly?
Are all the payment by credit card going to have to pass the 3D Secure security check?
On the info “?” it is said that the payments’ parameters is set to “recommended”. What does that mean exactly? Does the client have the option to choose 3D Secure or not? Why isnt’it mandatory?

Thank you very much in advance for your clarification.

Are all the payment by credit card going to have to pass the 3D Secure security check?

If the credit card that is used supports 3D Secure, the card would need to pass 3d Secure verification if this option is enabled.

On the info “?” it is said that the payments’ parameters is set to “recommended”.

The ‘recommended’ parameter is a property of the particular card that is being used. There are four possible parameters that a card may have.

    1. not_supported – the card does not support 3D Secure
    2. optional – 3D Secure is optional for the card, meaning that it will result in a successful transaction with or without taking the extra 3DS verification step.
    3. recommended – The card issues recommends sending the card through 3DS verification, but will honor the card without taking that step
    4. required – This card would require taking the 3DS verification step, otherwise it would be declined.

Does the client have the option to choose 3D Secure or not?

    No.

    Why isnt’it mandatory?

Because not all cards support 3DS and not all merchants want to burden their customers with an extra step at checkout and would rather take the risk of fraud themselves without shifting that liability for fraud to the card processor.

    Kind regards,

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.

    Hi @wbrubaker,

    Thank you for your answer.

How can I choose to set the parameter to “required” instead of “recommended”?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

That is set on the card by the card issuer.
