Please implement 3D Secure into your plugin. It would be a fantastic feature.

3D Secure is implemented by the gateway provider and not the plugin. If it’s already enabled by gateway then do a LIVE transactions(test transaction won’t redirect for 3d secure verification) and it should work fine.
Yes, the gateway has to have 3D Secure enabled in the dashboard but in addition, the plugin still has to be coded as a 3DS Requester to send the required authorization request to the directory server. The directory server then sends the information to the Access Control server.
Both of the following plugins have 3D Secure support. One is for Braintree and the other is for Stripe. Notice in the plugins how you can enable 3D Secure? This is required in addition to enabling 3D secure in the gateway’s dashboard. I’m hoping this plugin will do the same for NMI.

Really? You have tested a payment in production mode and the iframe modal window pops up for 3ds? If NMI is using risk based authentication (3DS 2.0) does your transaction show that the liability is being shifted in your transaction reports?
I don’t have an NMI account so I’m not able to check this.
Log in to your NMI account.
Go to “Transaction Reports” and filter through the correct dates.
Open up the transaction report under those dates (by clicking on the magnifying glass of the specific date and then clicking on “View These Transactions”).
In “Card Sale”, “Status”, transactions that got 3D Secure protection are shown as “Protected”.I assumed the plugin did not support 3D Secure because I received the following email from BNGDesign:
“We currently do not have any plans to integrate with 3D Secure for our NMI plugin. However, I’ll pass this information on to our development team to look into for future updates.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Yes. My Provider is EMS and gateway is NMI.
3d secure is enabled on the gateway only, i haven’t done any config with this plugin and in my transaction reports, all comes protected.

Interesting. Thanks for your input Sam. I noticed that this plugin is a three step redirect api so I wonder if the plugin doesn’t need to be setup with 3D Secure because the CC form is actually hosted by NMI instead of being embedded in the checkout page.. I’m not entirely sure. Hopefully one of the devs will chime in for clarification.
Sam do you have control of the 3D Settings? For example, are you able to automatically reject a transaction if the customer’s card is not enrolled in 3D Secure or the transaction is not eligible for liability shift? In other words, are you able to require a liability shift for every transaction?
I think you don’t know how liability shift works.
All you need is 3DS/VBV/ASK implementation on the gateway level, once it is done, it really doesn’t matter if customers card issuer doesn’t offer 3dsecure, if you did offer the customer at the time for the protection and if they don’t enroll or click on “do not activate” the liability is still shifted. It’s regardless if your customer goes through the process or not. as for the bank , merchant did offer the protection but customer didn’t go through it , or if the issuer doesn’t have the feataure on the card, your business is still protected.
Yes, you can change the settings for all protections in gateway portal if you want to reject or not.

I meant to ask you if your business is located in the United States? I know some gateways will sometimes offer different features involving 3DS for different countries. I would be interested to know.

Yes, my business is located in US. For some reason 3D Secure don’t work anymore now from last 5-7 days. My 6 transactions went through in one click without redirecting customer for 3d secure. I thought the problem is with plugin however I checked with NMI and they acknowledged that the problem is with their side. They said that 4-5 more businesses have told them about this issue and their engineering team is looking into this. Plugin should not be a problem as it hasn’t been updated from quite a while and 7 days ago my transactions were going through 3d secure. So it’s definitely something is up in gateway or may be eCommerce/word press as I updated them recently.
