3.9.2 Comments were not blocked

  • I have users must be registered and logged in to comment.
    I have anyone can register unchecked.
    Today I received a comment for moderation. “A new trackback on the post is awaiting your approval”
    I have no users in my database other than me. How did this comment get through?

    Note I do intend to have users and comments however I’ve turned them off for now until I learn how to get real users with real comments instead of spam. Currently wordpress is useless to me for commenting purposes. I did hack it once but that was blown away with an update. And writing a plugin looks daunting.

    Trackbacks aren’t comments.

    It took me a while to figure out that the notice was for a trackback and not a comment. Hopefully I’ve now turned trackbacks off too. The trackback was not related to my content so I consider it to be spam. Spam is a huge problem for me.
