• I have done all the recommended fixes, and nothing works. 3.9.1 is broke.
    Changed theme to 2014
    Disabled plugins
    Emptied cache
    Cleared all 3 browser cache/cookies
NOTHING WORKS, and this is annoying. I am considering dumping WordPress for another more stable blog software very soon.

  • Have you tried:

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

WordPress 3.9.1 is working just fine for millions of users, so this seems to be specific to your site.

I have done ALL the recommended fixes. I don’t know why you think it just MY site, clearly you have not read the hundreds of posts here about people having the same issue, so its clearly NOT specific to my site.

I have done ALL the recommended fixes

But not the two steps I listed above. Please try them.

    THIS DID NOT WORK:
Use phpMyAdmin to deactivate all plugins.

In the table wp_options, under the option_name column (field) find the active_plugins row
    Change the option_value field to: a:0:{}
Or reset your plugins folder via FTP or the file manager provided in your host’s control panel.

Via FTP or your host’s file manager, navigate to the wp-contents folder (directory)
Via FTP or your host’s file manager, rename the folder “plugins” to “plugins.hold”
Login to your WordPress administration menus (/wp-admin)
Via FTP or your host’s file manager, rename “plugins.hold” back to “plugins”

    And the last step?

Ma’am, Sir, whatever you are, I have been all over these forums as well as others for two days. I have replaced files, tried every fix I could find posted, and nothing works. It is inconceivable that one day I log in and there are no issues. The next day I log in, and the visual editor doesn’t work. Nothing on my computer has changed, installed, or deleted. I didn’t upload any files, make any changes to my website. So you tell me, is it me, or WP3.9.1?

Sorry but it’s specific to your site – which is why you need to carry out some basic troubleshooting.

LOL…Let me try once again. i have replaced files, uploaded fresh ones, tried the plugin folder idea, disabled and activated the plugins, tried the php my admin fix, etc, etc. the only thing i haven’t done is to delete everything and start over. And if that is what I need to do, then I will find other software for my website.

All you are telling me is what others have posted here elsewhere, and they DON’T WORK. Is there not a developer who is familiar with WordPress that can respond instead of a volunteer moderator?

Well, I have been working with WordPress since version 1. That’s about 10 years of WP experience as a professional/commercial developer, if that helps.

If you are still interested, try adding define('SCRIPT_DEBUG', true);to the bottom of your wp-config.php file (just before the require_once line).

Thats actually the third time I tried that…it didn’t do anything.

Then I can only suggest that you contact your hosts about this. Whatever it is, it is specific to your site and/or server and you have apparently ruled everything else out. So it must be a server issue.

It’s only broken on your site. It’s working just fine for over 21 million other 3.9 users.
