3.8 upgrade network ssl fail

Hello. I’ve been scouring the forum in search of a fix for my MU set-up. It stems from a SSL issue when upgrading all sites. Yes, I do have only one certificate at the moment and I know this can cause a problem, However, in the past there was a ‘temporary’ fix with the following changes:
define('FORCE_SSL_ADMIN', true); in wp-config.php.

Now it seems that I cannot find this line of code. Am I missing something? Until I get the SSL certificates sorted out I want to keep the sites current. Any suggestions? This is the reply I receive:
Error message: SSL peer certificate or SSH remote key was not OK

I have a number of sites are all under thecrossroads.tv via GoDaddy hosting.
