• I just upgraded to 3.6.1 and now I can’t search my media library. I can find my previously uploaded media from the “Media Library” tab on the control panel. I have to copy the URL, then go back to my new post and use the “Insert from URL” item to load the media into my new post. So, I can retrieve the media, but not in the usual, efficient way.

Wish I had waited a few days to upgrade.

Is there a simple way to roll-back the WordPress version back to 3.6?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Also, I can’t even place a featured image from my library! I have to upload a new image to use a featured. Just found this out.

I haven’t tried that. We are in the middle of our day and lots of folks are visiting our site, so i do not want to start messing around with it. Thanks for your suggestions, they seem a bit scary to try. What about rolling back to 3.6? Is this possible?

No – we do not recommend rolling back. There is no magic bullet in these situations. This is just the start of basic troubleshooting and is a process of elimination deliberately designed to locate the root cause as quickly as possible by first removing the most obvious and common culprits via a series of (often) temporary steps.

Do you want to locate and, hopefully, fix the problem on your site? If “yes”, then please help us to help you and carry out the changes that we suggest.

Your theme & plugin settings are saved in your database and should be retained for future use.
