3.4.1, No editing menu on blog post, can't insert media

  • I just upgraded to WP 3.4.1 and, although I can make a new blog post, the only editing option available above the text box is the media icon. The rest are gone.
    I can upload photos, but it will not insert them into the blog post. Have no idea how to fix this.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    Did the first three and none of them fixed the problem.

    How do I exclude the wp_content folder from a fresh download? Just drag it out and move it? Then move it back in when the new version is installed?

    It’s always a good idea to have a backup copy of your wp-content folder – if only because it also contains all of your uploaded images. That said, you can just upload everything except the wp-content folder from the fresh download. You don’t have to actually re-install WordPress.

    I don’t know enough about my control panel to be able to do that, but thanks for your advice. I don’t want to risk screwing everything up…but I guess if I can’t do new posts, then the whole thing is screwed anyway.

    Did all the above mentioned troubleshooting in the foot as well. After the 341 update ..lots of strange issues – CSS styling went wacky. Some items are now out of position. The “Visual” tab in the post editor shows nothing half the time, even when I try to edit an existing post. None of this mess was present before the update :\ I’m going to regress back to 3.4 to check. Maybe some kind of incompatibility anomaly with some themes!? I’ve heavily customized mine…using a “Child” of course.

    I face the same problem also. All my uploaded picture cannot insert into post. After tried with a few setting I found that the media setting should be change. Remove crop thumbnail (unselect) setting under media setting will solve this problem. Read more at blogsyarih.com
