• I’ve been watching this for a while and finally did some experimenting. I’ve had the same 5 posts as my most popular posts in the past 7 days for about a month. I figured this was maybe because they show up in search or for other reasons despite the fact that more recent posts appeared to have more traffic.

In fact, no matter what I set the timeframe to in the settings, the top 5 doesn’t change nor does the page view count. Basically, the widget is simply showing a static list at this point. Page views aren’t changing even as more people visit the page and if the timeframe is changed.

    Not sure what’s happening.

    Thanks,
    JMR

  • Hi jonmrich,

I’m about to release a new version of WPP that should fix that. It’s still on alpha stage, however if you want to try it out let me know and I’ll send you the files.

    Cheers!

I’ll take a shot at the alpha. Current version isn’t working that well for me, so hopefully it’ll help.

Can you send me a link to download or do you need an email?

    Thanks,
    JMR

Yup. Get it here: https://www.soyunduro.com/wordpress-popular-posts.zip (please copy & paste this URL into your address bar as for some odd reason I can’t link to it from here). Please remember to backup your database in case you need to rollback all changes (don’t think so, but just in case).

    What’s new:

    # Caching system:
To prevent your database from going huge, WPP now implements a cache system. WPP will store your most popular posts for the last 30 days and will remove from the cache all those posts that have not been viewed by anyone during that period of time.

    # WordPress Popular Posts is now WP-Cache / WP Super Cache friendly!:
WPP is updated via Ajax from this version on. Another user of WPP was kind enough to provide me with the necessary scripts to make it work with all caching plugins! (I can’t remember his name right now, sorry!! Will give him proper credits once the official version is out).

Give it a try and let me know what you think, ok?
