• I’m having this annoying issue, where copy/pasting from Word appears to strip all markup (bold, links, headlines, you name it).

This is a new, as it’s always worked in previous WP versions.

Hitting the “Paste from Word” button in the editor-toolbar doesn’t work either. Same end result with all markup being stripped.

I’ve tested this on more than one installation, and it’s the same every time.

    What to do?

  • Don’t paste content from Microsoft Word into WordPress as the pasted text will also contain Word’s own formatting. Sooner or later, this formatting will stop your pages from being displayed correctly (if at all) in Internet Explorer. If you cannot possibly manage without Word, paste your text into NotePad (or another text editor) first, then copy from NotePad into WordPress.

    Or use Windows LiveWriter.

    Thanks for the reply.

I realize there may be issues at times with the formatting, but in the past it has been an easy way of just keeping the overall formatting (stuff like p, h1, h2, h3 etc, including links within the doc).

I always hit the HTML tab and make sure stuff looks right, and there are never any issues.

Copy/pasting from notepad defeats the whole purpose, as that strips all formatting, making me insert all the text formatting again.

Reason why I made this thread is because this wasn’t an issue in earlier versions. Is this something WP has “corrected” or is there still a way I can make it work? Also, shouldn’t it at least keep the formatting when hitting the “Paste from Word”-button?

this wasn’t an issue in earlier versions

Pasting from Word has been an issue for as long as I can recall (which is a few years back). I’ve seen the “junk” that MS Word adds bring whole sites to a shuddering halt in IE. Have you tried using Live Writer? It’s by far the best option for your situation.

    I’ll look into it, thanks.

And no, it hasn’t been an issue for me in earlier versions. Testing right now in a said earlier version, and it’s a non-issue.

Just came across this, I have the same problem on WP v3.5.4, Paste from Word button doesn’t work still strips the code. Granted it’s not a big deal to me as I don’t use Word for this purpose (I’m just following an example from a video course), however it seems like if you have the function it should work. Right? Regardless of some people’s personal opinions, it would be nice if this function was fixed so it would work properly. If no one’s going to address it then it should be removed, because as it stands it’s just a Broken Button of False Hope lol.

Deadpool, create a thread about this to discuss it.

Apologies, I thought that’s what this was? O.o

Seems so, but it looks like this discussion ended 11 months ago.

I see, you mean start a new one rather than continue the old one. Thanks.
