  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

I tried clearing the cache, restarting the browser, and deactivating the plugins as well as reactivating them and it didnt work. I also can’t seem to log out of admin.

I also just trying switching to a default theme, that didn’t do anything. I tried seeing if my backend works properly on safari and its the same as firefox.

Try resetting the plugins folder. Use the PhpMyAdmin method if you can. It tends to be more successful. What you’re describing has all of the hallmarks of a plugin (or other script) that is incompatible with 2.8
