• Hi All,

Firstly, I have recently taken over the webmaster duties on a WordPress website (firstplaysports.com) and I am having a few issues.

    1. The visual editor does not appear when trying to edit or create pages in Firefox. However, there is white text in the box that you can see if you highlight it. The text is the HTML code that can be seen in HTML view. The visual editor does not work in Google Chrome either but DOES work in IE8.

    2. If you load the homepage in both IE8 and Firefox then it appears very differently. Firefox looks good but IE8 aligns the page to the left and does not show the company logo top left. However, if you then navigate to another page it displays in the center and the logo is there. The 3 boxes at the bottom of the homepage appear narrower in IE8 than Firefox and do not display the content as well.

I find this very frustrating as I am having to edit the website in one browser to see that it displays better in another! The missing logo in IE8 is also a turn off for anyone browsing the site. I have also had reports that the logo sometimes shifts over the menu bar to the right, again not very pleasant for a customer.

I have checked all the php files and they look OK, I cannot work out why there are such big differences between 2 browsers? Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

OK, so deactivating all the plugins and turning them back on one by one has resolved the editor issue for now in Firefox.

The theme we are using is a custom built theme, is there any way to get a copy of it off WordPress so that I can switch to a different theme?

Any ideas on the homepage not displaying properly in IE8?

If it’s a custom theme, you need to contact the original developer. www.remarpro.com does not host custom themes.

Start by sorting out the markup errors. Then move onto the CSS errors.

If you continue to have problems with IE, consider conditional comment CSS
