Installing from JustHost

For some reason Fantastico thinks you have an installed WordPress already. If there isn’t an existing Fantastico WordPress install to delete, then look for a file called fantversion.php and delete that.

Fantastico will only install to an empty folder. since you already have a default holding page (index.html, home.html or default.html) in the root, fantastico is counting that as 1 script.

Your options are either to delete the holding page or install in a different folder i.e blog.

As a word of warning, Fantastico is not very good at handling wordpress – you will face more problems down the line later. Do a manual install instead.

I agree with ZGani. Fantastico doesn’t upgrade the third party scripts version frequently. So you have to wait for Fantastico upgrade to get latest version of WordPress. Sometime we may need to upgrade WordPress version as soon as it is available. But if you have installed it from Fanstico then you will need to wait for their upgrade and then you can upgrade your blog version.

Yes, it is one of the option but then after we can not upgrade the version from Fantastico and Fanstico will keep showing outdated version of script even if we have upgraded our wordpress.

Fantastico adds its own files to the installation which keeps track of the install. A work arround is to do a one time manual upgrade by deleting all the files and folders (including those implanted by fantastico) except for wp-content folder, .htaccess and wp-config.php files, upload the new files & folders and follow the manual upgrade procedure.

Once you are done you can go on your merry blogging way, upgrading whenever it is necessary and fantastico will be none the wiser and wont trouble you in the future. And thats how you take back control of your blog over from fantastico. ??

Why is Fantastico displaying “Not Upgraded” to 2.8.4

When, I did so, immediately, upgraded weeks ago to 2.8.4. with WordPress Admin Dashboard of which reads 2.8.4.

Search for files with “fant” in them, delete all
– then it will install fine

Once you have cleared the site of any files that wordpress uses look for a .fantasticodata/ folder in the root directory of the domain(not the public_html directory) rename or delete it. That will fix the re-install issue.

Where is the root directory of the domain found? I ask for patience… I know almost NOTHING about all this. ?? I am using cPanel with Hostgator.

I have a problem using fantastico to install WordPress because the wrong domain was set for the site first… I installed WP…. then noticed the error…. then the site was corrected to the right domain name … and now getting this message. I have no idea how to fix this reported error. Please help. It must be the latest version because only doing this now.

Where it asks for the directory to install WP to it says to leave it blank

It says:
Leave empty to install in the root directory of the domain (access example: https://domain/).
Enter only the directory name to install in a directory (for https://domain/name/ enter name only). This directory SHOULD NOT exist, it will be automatically created!

So somewhere it does now exist and needs to un-exist… but I don’t know how to make that happen.

I wish I could just by-pass this fantastico nonsense but I don’t know how to install manually.

Hostgator managed to fix this error for me. Just not showing it yet… but in comms with them still.

This can be corrected by logging into cPanel, clicking on “File Manager” then on the folder icon next to .fantasticodata, then clicking on the filename installed_in_root.php and remove / delete that file …. DONE !
