• Hey,

I have a domain name change coming up soon and was curious as to how to approach it.

1 – The site is at domainCurrent.com (the primary domain for example’s sake)

    2 – domainFuture.com is parked and pointing to domainCurrent.com

3 – Next week we have to flip them.

4 – That would make domianFuture.com the primary domain

    5 – I would then PARK domainCurrent.com under domainFuture.com

So BOTH domains point to the same site – “current” would just then resolve to “future”.

    My question…

Do I need to create 301 redirects pointing the old links (for the parked domainCurtrent.com) to the new domain links?

    That’s all. Thanks!

  • Someone else may be more right than me regarding this but what I would say is no 301 necessary as long as you are sure that the old domain is parked and forwarded to the new domain.

Then when the parked domain is called, it resolves to the new domain.
Of course you will have to change the siteurl and home_url entries for the website – this may prove useful regarding that:
