• I know that if I want to move a site from one domain to another and maintain Google rankings I need to edit the htaccess file to include a 301 redirect. However if a blog is currently using wordpress.com ([domain].wordpress.com) the admin doesn’t have access to the htacess file.

What is an alternate solution? The site i am being tasked to move needs to maintain the rankings but also needs to go to a private hosting company.

    Help!

    Michael

  • I believe that WordPress.com allows an blog to be redirected to an external address. Check for their “Upgrades” – seems it is $ 5– to $ 10– a year for that option.

Finding info on their Upgrades can be a bit tough at times, check from inside your clients Dashboard for links or check on their forum.
