301 redirect / Canonical

  • How can I remove redirects once established? – Is this a bug?

    Have searched but can’t see it reported. I created a post and redirected it to a page via Yoast Advanced Tab (Canonical and 301 redirect). I wanted to remove the redirect so I went back to the Yoast Advanced tab and deleted the 2 fields and saved. There was no effect and so I went back to the post and entered the posts own URLs in the input boxes and now the post is trapped in a redirect loop.

    I checked my .htaccess file and there are no Yoast rules written there so I assume Yoast redirects are written elsewhere?

    I believe I resolved it. I had to add a space to the 301 redirect field – it wouldn’t simply save the delete. Overwriting the redirect with an empty space seems to work. Does this sound right though?

    I just experienced the exact same problem. In searching for an answer I found your post here, so I tried what you tried and it worked for me. Apparently Yoast SEO won’t overwrite an old 301 redirect unless you use an empty space in place of the redirect.
