301 Re-directs not working

I have converted my (old) static site: https://www.best-family-beach-vacations.com to a (new) wordpress site: bestfamilybeachvacations.com
It runs on the Genesis framework and I have wordpress 4.2.2

I also am using simple 301 redirects and they are set up to mirror old to new ie
https://www.best-family-beach-vacations.com/ >>>>> bestfamilybeachvacations.com/
https://www.best-family-beach-vacations.com/beach-vacation-in-spain.html >>>>>>> bestfamilybeachvacations.com/beach-vacation-in-spain/

I changed the nameservers for the old domain for the new host and in the cpanel I have set up to redirect to new domain – which it does but it comes up as a 404 error instead of the re-direct.
I don’t know why it is not working??
