• I’ve just updated 2 installations to 3.0.1 and the result is horrible. One system is running Ubuntu 12.04 and the other one is a 1&1 web hosting package. Both have WP 3.5.1. Here’s a list of the problems:

    1. SQL dump doesn’t work (on both systems):
    [28-Feb-2013 08:20:02] WARNUNG: mysqli::mysqli(): (HY000/2005): Unknown MySQL server host ‘localhost:3306’ (2) [28-Feb-2013 08:20:02] FEHLER: Kann keine Verbindung zur Datenbank 2005 herstellen: Unknown MySQL server host ‘localhost:3306’ (2)

2.) The resulting backup file can’t be downloaded. The “download” link just takes you to an empty page (on both systems)

3.) The resulting backup file is 3 times bigger than the old ones (on both systems, no content has been added)

4.) The backup job takes _very_ long (524 sec. instead of about 30 sec. on one system)

Did you even test this version before releasing it? Because it went from a pretty good plugin to total crap in just one update. How can I do a downgrade to 2.x?

Forgot to mention: one system is running PHP 5.4 the other one 5.3.

Can you send me a log file. Than i can better see what happens.
Send it to d dot huesken at inpsyde dot com

New backwpup 3.0.1 seems to work, but it’s not emailing the logs ??

@14sskillz: The logs will send with wp_mail please check that it works. Please check the setting for log mailing two.

Thank daniel, will test the wp_mail on my installs.

The last backup logs are not showing up in my main wp dashboard, only in the backWPup dashboard. Can you fix this ?

    Hi Daniel,

habe gerade das Update gemacht und ein Backup ausführen wollen.

    Folgende Meldung erscheint im Log:

[28-Feb-2013 06:51:33 America/Chicago] PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function apc_clear_cache() in /home/nateivec/public_html/wp-content/plugins/backwpup/inc/class-job.php on line 650

Kannst Du mir hierbei helfen? Danke!

    hi daniel,

did an update to 3.01, now i get errors:

    – the backup hangs after
[28-Feb-2013 13:24:47 UTC] PHP Warning: putenv(): Warning: Cannot set environment variable 'TMPDIR' - it's not in the allowed list (setting: safe_mode_allowed_env_vars) in /customers/1/8/0/xxxxxx.org/httpd.www/w/wp-content/plugins/backwpup/inc/class-job.php on line 626

the tmpdir is empty except for index.php & .htaccess
in the backupdir i can find 128mb .zip.random files ans valid small .zip files of ~3% size of how they should be.

    – another thing i also recognized is that i can see the list of old logs but NOT the backup-files.

i hope that are only troubles of the new code & will be fixed soon ??

OK, so I upgraded to 3.0.2. I can create a backup now on the Ubuntu system, but the other 3 errors described above are still there!

Furthermore, I can’t start the backup job from the new menu that is integrated in the button. It always tells me that I haven’t got the appropriate permissions (when logged in as admin). When using the old menu on the left it works.

@weepee: Waht erros did you mean exectly. Please explain tham a bit more. Example: where is the file uploded when you download it.

The Version was tested from severl persons an server hoster.

I’m sorry, but I simply don’t have the time to help you debugging your code. And I’m not convinced that the 3.x version will be nearly as good as the 2.x in the near future ??

To be honest, in all my years as a full-time developer and hobby-admin I’ve never had an update (of any program) breaking functionality that bad as BackWPup did with 3.x! And I’m not the only one, just have a look at the support forum. You should have tested it thouroughly. Now it will take you a lot of work to fix all those bugs and calm down the community… good luck with that!

    P.S. : I’m testing UpdraftPlus. Looks usable.

@weepee So you’re a full-time developer and you’ve used an awesome plugin for free all the time the author of which obviously has done a great job so far. Now there’s an issue and you jump ship. Sorry to see you go, dude.

@weepee, I am sorry to hear that you are leaving this great plugin. In my humble opinion Daniel has done and is doing a super job providing this plugin for free and thus I will always support it in any way I can. I have written a great tutorial, which is my way of promoting this great plugin. In regards to your comment

If you have a look at W3 Total Cache in the last few releases there has been major issues. But most if not all who use it including myself are doing their best to support Frederick Townes. I believe that if we all do our part to support in any way the developers with donations, tutorials code fixing support in the forum, it will go far for everyone in the WordPress community which is in the millions. I would like to thank everyone for their support and contribution to this great plugin and the other plugins in www.remarpro.com.

    Kind and warm regards

That’s correct. It’s even a thing that I do regularly: using software that works while avoiding software that doesn’t (and dumping software that has been broken).

It’s a thing that people do. Most of them because they have a task to accomplish and no clue of programming. Although I know how to program, I’ve got a different job where I put my energy into (and some other things commonly known as “a life”).

Although I appreciate Daniel’s work, I’m not responsible for it. If he decides to rewrite and release his software to the public with a shitload of bugs in it, than he has to live with the consequences. He can’t rely on the users to help him solve his problems as well as I can’t rely on our customers to fix my bugs. That’s also a part of that thing called “life” and everybody has to learn it eventually…

I’ve never used that plugin myself, so I can’t say anything about it. But if you have enough spare time and energy to support the developer, than that’s a good thing. However, you need to understand that, if people are not doing this and use a different plugin, than that’s also a good thing! Everybody should have the freedom to decide what to do with his life. And who knows… maybe those other people are putting their energy into the development of a different software that you are also using regularly ??

    Nuff talking…
