3.0 makes next published post home page and cannot change

I have wp installed on a community website I run but when I installed 3.0 it then was all fine at first.

However, the next post or page I publish becomes the homepage for some reason. I can’t figure out what has gone wrong or how I can fix it.

Any ideas?
