• I have 4 websites. All 4 upgraded to 5.0 just fine. Received notices to update to 5.0.1 on all 4. Did so. Only one will update, the other 3 will not. Have attempted multiple times without success. I get the “Success Welcome to WordPress 5.0.1” page after trying to update but still have the old editor. All hosted on BlueHost.

    3 Sites that fail:
    easttexasanglers.com
    alloutdoorsclassifieds.com
    carriage-lifestyle-owners-club.com

    Thanks for any help.

have you tried any troubleshooting steps mentioned here?

I get the “Success Welcome to WordPress 5.0.1” page after trying to update but still have the old editor.

What editor are you expecting to get?

The Block Editor was introduced in 5.0. It’s still there in 5.0.1. Nothing changed with the editor between these two versions.

If you have the Classic Editor plugin installed, then it will still have the TinyMCE editor. Likewise, on Custom Post Types, the new block editor is not the default, so the old editor will show up there.

Basically, we need specific details. What are you seeing, what were you expecting instead, that sort of thing.

Lisa, I went thru the troubleshooting steps. I downloaded and ran the Health Check plugin and got this result:
A plugin has prevented updates by disabling wp_version_check().

I was wondering if it can detect that a plugin is preventing updates, why can’t it identify it and give you the name of it? Makes no sense.

    Thanks for your assistance.

Samuel, Thank you for helping and replying. Basically what I meant by Editor, that it reverted back to the old WordPress (type version) prior to 5.0. What’s crazy is all sites updated to 5.0 and I had the Gutenberg “Blocks” type editor. After updating to 5.0.1, three of the sites says that 5.0.1 version is there but the Gutenberg “Block” editor is not. Everything appears as it did prior to 5.0.

I “did not” install the “Classic Editor” on any of my sites. What is so crazy about this is all sites had updated to 5.0 and were working fine with the Block Editor and now with supposedly 5.0.1 installed, three of the four do not. It’s like 5.0.1 installed without Gutenberg. I test it by trying to create a new page to see if the Gutenberg block editor appears after each attempt to re-update to 5.0.1 and it doesn’t.

I don’t know how to explain this any better. Thanks again.

It can detect that the problem exists by running the code and seeing that the result is not what it should be. It can’t read the plugins and figure out which one is doing it though. As useful as Health Check is, it’s still just code, not artificial intelligence.

Maybe post your health check results here, so we can see them and maybe give you some advice.

Also, on the Updates screen, there is a Re-install button. Clicking that will have it download a fresh copy of WordPress, and update all the files. Just to make sure you have a complete update and not a partial one that is missing some of the required pieces.

    Thread Starter boy1der

    (@boy1der)

Samual, I’ve clicked and updated to 5.0.1 four times on each of the sites that are involved. No change. I will post the results of the Health Check results next. Thanks

Also, what is confusing is all sites updated to 5.0 with no issues with the same plugins that are installed now when updating to 5.0.1. No plugins have been added since 5.0.

Right. Okay, when you’re running Health Check, at the top of the screen is a Debug Information tab. If you click on that, then there’s a dialog at the top that says this:

The system information shown below can also be copied and pasted into support requests such as on the www.remarpro.com forums, or to your theme and plugin developers.

The button labeled “Show copy and paste field”. If you click that, it will give you a text block that you can copy and paste to here. That’s the kind of information we need to see to help you.

Health Check was made for this purpose, to make it easier for people to post information about their site to these forums. It’s designed for that copy paste to be easy to work with these forums. ??

You have Elementor. That’s probably turning off the new editor. Many pagebuilders are not yet compatible with the block editor, so they disable it.

Well, the health check has a debug mode that can disable your plugins for you only, and let you test to see which plugin is doing it.
