• This is being written as a last resort without having to change the theme completely.

I am currently using a lifestyle theme 2.0 and I would like to change the homepage to have 3 columns not 2. I have spent too much time trying to find a solution to this and I cannot find one.

To my understanding the mainpage can only be a 2 column page and that is it. If this is correct just let me know and I will not waste anyone’s time.

I can change the internal pages to any layout available within the appearance options. Just can’t change the ?#$%ing homepage.

If anyone has any insight I would greatly appreciate it.

    My website is AppleTruthandRumors.com

  • The homepage layout can be 2 columns and a sidebar, or 1 column and a sidebar.

If you need assistance with the theme you can get support in the StudioPress support forum.

Johnny, I really like what you’ve done with your homepage!! Looks like you achieved the column layout…and the slider looks great too.

I am tearing my hair out trying to achieve the same look with the Lifestyle theme i.e. the home page that has 2 text columns and sidebar at the top, with single column and side bar further down. I’m still fairly green with WordPress but I would be really grateful if you could give me any tips as to how I might be able get close to what you’ve done.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Sam

I am still having a problem… I want a small sidebar column, large text area column and then sidebar column…

However if you are looking for your site to look more like mine current version please provide the website, I will take a look at what you have…

Thanks Johnny, I appreciate it….. don’t judge too quickly… I’ve only been working on WordPress for a few days. It’s Yourhealthdeals.com

I know it’s quite basic at the moment but hopefully I can build it up quite quickly.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sam, no worries, I understand, we all had to start somewhere, you will get there once you start filling it up with content.

If you want the slider then make sure you have the dynamic content gallery enabled. It will not start displaying anything even if you have it enabled until you add an image to an article.

Second under the genesis tab in your wordpress select theme setting, then make sure your default layout is set to one large column on the left and one side bar on the right(Mine is the first default layout on the left). Then Save.

Then go to the appearance tab on the left and then select widgets.

On the right you will see featured top left, featured top right and featured bottom. This is where I dragged “genesis featured posts” and added my categories.

    Example:
Featured top left = iPad Truth And Rumors
Featured top right = Apple TV Truth And Rumors
Featured bottom = All latest Truth and Rumors

Once you save all the widgets, go to the main page and check out your changes. I usually have to save a post before I notice the effect.

    I hope this helps…

Thanks for the advice Johnny – very kind of you and I very much appreciate it!

I think I’ve discovered the main problem I’m having. Despite changing the default appearance back to the template you recommended I don’t have the “Featured Top Left, Right or Bottom” options in my widget page that you outlined. All a bit baffling, but I only seem to have Header Right, Primary Sidebar, Secondary Sidebar (even though it’s not active), Sidebar Bottom Left, Sidebar Bottom Right, Home, Home Left, Home Right, Portfolio, Footer 1, Footer 2 and Footer 3.

I’ve double checked the template setting and saved a few times but still no luck. Am I missing something obvious?

    Cheers again,

    Sam
