    Hello,
First of all, thank you very much for the great plugin.
Unfortunately I have a problem with the 2FA via email.
2FA via email has been successfully enabled and marked as required for all users.

Problem: It is still possible to log in with only the user name and password. No email is sent to the user.

    I activated both options

    • WP user profile page
    • Dedicated WP admin page

However, the checkbox is always deactivated and cannot be activated.

The SMTP Mailer plugin was installed to send the e-mail, which also works without any problems.

    What did I miss?

    Many thanks for your help

Hi, glad to hear you’re liking Shield, and sorry about the trouble you’ve had.

After enabling 2FA by email, did you receive the email sent to you from Shield to confirm whether email could be delivered successfully?

Many thanks for the quick response; Yes, I received and confirmed the email…

Did you open the link in that email within the same browser as you were using when you saved the 2FA option? Could you retry it – turn off email 2FA, and then turn it on again and if you get the email, ensure the link opens up in the correct browser…

This is exactly the tip I read in the documentation and followed. Unfortunately, the result remained the same… I also tried to switch between the options “Choose the Custom Shield page” and “WP Login Page”… but unfortunately also without success…

Also, can you double-check whether the user role that you’re testing is included in your enforced user role setting? If it’s not included, then it won’t be active for that user.

These user roles are entered (test) in the field…
    administrator
    editor
    author
    contributor
    subscriber
    shop_manager

and does the user definitely have one of those roles?

    (@e222w)

Yes, the user roles are also assigned… at least for me as an admin, the rule should also work, but unfortunately it doesn’t either…

    Is your IP Address whitelisted?

I’m going to need to see what’s going on. Please send screenshots of:

    • your email 2FA configuration:
      Shield > Config > Login Protection > 2FA Email
    • screenshot of configuration:
      Shield > Config > Login Protection > On/Off
    • The section on your user profile for Shield’s 2FA options.

The final screenshot shows that 2FA is enabled. You can’t change it, because it is enforced.

This means that email 2FA is enabled and working on your site.

Your problem now isn’t with Shield, it’s with your WordPress email. You will need to discuss with your email provider how you can view email delivery logs/progress. Shield simply uses wp_mail() on your WordPress site – it is up to you to configure how email is sent. You’re using the SMTP Mailer plugin, so you’ll need to work with that to get it working for you. If it doesn’t work, try another plugin or email provider.

    We hugely recommend Postmark:
