2.9 – manually removing widgets from dashboard

Hi, I know there are tutorials out there on editing the dashboard to manually remove some of the default widgets (namely the devblog, latest news from blogplay, and other wordpress news) but they seem to be for earlier versions of WP and not the current structure.

I couldnt find tutorials out there for 2.8+, anybody able to tell me how to edit the newer versions to remove those default widgets, or is there an up-do-date tutorial out there that I missed? Thanks.
