2.7 Users. Don't Upgrade

    I have two blogs. My first one on 2.7. I have resisted upgrading for over a year. I just started a new blog with 3.0.1 and it will not play pasted embed codes. It just shows text. With 2.7 I copy and paste the embed code from numerous sites and the video will play immediately. Why is that functionality lost in 3.0.1? I have spent hours reading forums on how to imbed. Their seems to be lots of frustration. Somebody please explain to me the rationality of wordpress upgrades. Will I ever with 3.0.1 simply be able to paste an embed code from someplace like youtube and have my video play?

    1st of all it’s bad advice to not upgrade as 2.7 has security vulnerabilities.

    where are you embedding?
    post, page, sidebar?

    Do you use some sort of plugin on your 2.7 site?

    Also, not upgrading is a crappy idea. Especially for functionality sake.

    You risk having you website hacked and losing everything. Plus WP 3.0+ has a lot of new features. New WP releases frequently contain security and bug fixes.

    There are many video plugins that allow you to use shortcodes to embed video

    Thanks. I am trying to embed on the page. My frustration comes from having a function that worked well in 2.7 not work in the upgrade. I take your point about security. I was unaware of security short falls in wordpress. Thanks for the advice about the plug-in. I will try it. Why should an upgrade need a plug in for something it’s previous version did out of the box so to speak?

    I honestly was unaware that WP used to support that and now doesn’t…. I’d have to research more to answer what happened there (maybe someone else has insight?)

    I’ve always used that plugin…just like the way it looks better

    It looks like youtube embed should work with just a url…

    for instance the WP test file (for theme testing) uses:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCXlCkY4Y5g

    which embeds fine. Perhaps you just need to use the urlm, and not embed codes?

    I think wp3 was upgraded to use the oEmbed or whatever its called

    Yeah I found reference to that in one of the many forum questions on embedding. I tried it. I wound up with the url in my blog but no video unless i clicked on the url. I will give it another try.
