The new UI on 2.7 is not a step forward IMO. Because the dashboard sits on the left side of the screen, the middle edit column is so small that you can’t see a title over 3 words long. A plugin I paid 99 dollars for to do special SEO on posts is also not as usable because it sits in the miniscule middle edit column on the screen. Having drag and drop for stuff on the right side of the screen without allowing resizing and putting it on the left with the dashboard stuff is basically useless as far as I am concerned.

I like the drop down menus in the board but either put it back at the top of the screen or allow for drag and drop so we can put the dashboard where we want it. ie. at the top of the screen while maintaining the drop down menus. This would allow for 2 inches more space to add to the edit column. 2 inches of very valuable screen real estate.

I can only hope that a real person will read this somewhere soon and some action may be taken in the 2.7 release 2 in the works. Til this interface stuff gets more user friendly, I am going to migrate back to 2.6.5 and run my plugins that make it 2.6.5 user friendly.

  • Oh the horror … change … it is all so different … I am lost … please help me …

    *rolleyes*

I don’t think it’s the fact of Change itself that’s upsetting some folks, it’s that the change has been made to be more aesthetically pleasing (with great success, by the way) but at the expense of functionality. Some things that used to be done in 1 click now take several. In terms of design, that’s a step backward.

However, I maintain that a good compromise is simply in allowing the user to drag *anything* around, including putting the left side items up top if they prefer. Choice is never a bad thing.

If 2.6 was a step back in usability then 2.7 is running backwards and town the hill to collect the award for “The Most Useless and Crappiest Admin Interface EVER”!

    Bravo!

Thank you! I am more than disappointed ??

If WP UI guys can not figure out how a useful and intuitive UI’s look and work, please copy it from some other software.

2.7 UI is a bad joke! (yes, it looks all pretty but it is not functional!

BTW, drag and drop some crap around your screen is NOT “good usability”!

Wow, the amount of hate for the new UI…

I have to admit UI 2.7 is a welcomed breath of fresh air for me. At last, a real UI that looks great and actually makes sense! The previous UIs look oh, so dated… UI 2.6 was a pain to use. I also love the Quick Edit feature. I have the feeling that at last the developers have some heavyweights among their midst to help take WP to the next level.

I welcome the direction WP is taking and hope for more (not less, sorry to those who do not like changes) user friendly features that make site creation and maintenance easier.

One of which is: get rid of the login/register screen and make them available right on the front page (I know there are plugins available but what a pain everytime we get a new release) — and please no dashboard/site admin for readers who subscribe to the site.

    Yes, I agree. Good idea!
