2.7 text formatting problem

I am using wordpress2.7. When I use any text formatting option from rich text editor, I can see the tags in source code but the text is not seen as formatted. e.g., if I make a word ‘strong’, i can see the <strong></strong> tag in code but the word is not visible as emphasized. Please help me out.
