    Preventing it is the key. Fixing it should be easy.

    Need to know what file was hacked before you can prevent it. I would start by looking in my theme’s footer.php file

    I doubt 2.6.1 was hacked. When did you upgrade? Are you on a shared server? Plugins with known vulnerabilties? Unsmart file permissions? It could be a number of things.
    It sounds like your theme was comprimised. Better delete it alltogether and upload a fresh copy. Then make sure to check if other files are changed too (timestamps can be a good indication) and of course try to find out how they got in by checking error- and access logs.

    And once you have cleaned up, why not “Harden WordPress” a little?
