I just installed WP on the database and can sign in as an admin but when I visit the URL the blog doesn’t show up. It displays the html placeholder page I put up a while ago. I can’t figure out how to make it display the blog instead.

    I’m using Bluehost/cPanel.

    Help, please!

  • Delete the index.html.

Did you install in a subdirectory or root? If root, then you do need to delete the index.html, so that you only have one index file…the index.php file for wp. If you installed in a subdirectory, then you just need to add that subdirectory to your url. See the following for installing WP using Cpanel.

The servers will show index.html with a higher priority than index.php. WordPress uses index.php. If your previous placeholder page is an index.html page, delete it and you should be able to access your WordPress install… assuming it was installed in the correct location. You can test this by going to yourdomain.com/index.php

Thanks everyone for the help so far,
I finally found and then deleted the index.html file but now when I visit my domain I get a message that says “Error establishing a database connection” even if I add /index.php. My database and user are set up. It used to work when I added /wp-admin after my url, now I get the error message stated above.

Thanks for linking to the video..now I’m sure that I have wp in the root folder. I didn’t get an option to set the config file (I got the error message above) but I edited the sample and resaved it as the proper name.

Any more suggestions? Thank you again.

I had to rewrite my wp-config file to match my new database and user. Problems resolved!
